First of all, some welcome and unexpected news: Pauline is coming back to work at the office*. She decided the snow and cold of Newfoundland is not for her! We’ll have an update on this in short order.

When I’m not meeting with clients or reviewing planning and investments with Terran, I am reading — reports, news, opinions, strategies…everything and anything related to financial planning, tax, economics, politics and so on. It’s the only way to attempt to stay ahead of things in this job. One email summary I get each morning is from Morning Brew. It’s a great summary of some news and themes as well as a few fun items. For those of you curious about the world, click the link to get your daily update.

The deadline for filing personal income tax returns for tax year 2022 is April 30, 2023. It’s important to note that this deadline applies to most individuals. If you or your spouse or common-law partner are self-employed, you have until June 15, 2023 to file your tax return but to avoid interest charges tax owing must still be paid by April 30, 2023. If you have any questions about your personal taxes, please contact Terran at the office.

As per our survey summary, I’m working on some short videos which will explain a number of questions posed by clients on a regular basis. Examples include ‘how do I read my statement’ or ‘where can I find my tax slips’? These should be ready a bit later this spring.
