Happy ‘23! We wish you a safe, happy and prosperous year.
Well, here we are at the start of another year! Where does the time go?
First of all, thank you very much to those of you who voted for us in the Comox Valley Reader’s Choice Awards. We were thankful to be voted #1 again. We do our best and very grateful for your support.
It’s been a few years since we did our last client survey. In late January, we will be sending a new survey which will come via Precise FP. It’ll be online and should only take five minutes to complete. I would really appreciate any feedback you can provide. We muddled through the last 2.5 years of ‘business during COVID’ and we’re looking to re-set how we do things – your ideas and comments will help us do just that.
It was great to see many of you in-person at the Christmas party. We’re planning a few events this year so we will continue this ‘back to normal’ theme of seeing people in the flesh! Stay tuned over the coming months for updates on these events.
There are a number of new tax changes, programs and options rolling out this year. For existing clients, we will be sending a bulletin out in early February with some of these details. If you’d like a copy, just let the office know. Please remember that Terran provides tax preparation services so if you need assistance with a personal tax return, please contact him (terran@bdfp.ca).
For those of you who are contributing to TFSAs, please note that the 2023 contribution limit has increased to $6500 and the global lifetime limit is now up to $88,000. Even if you have never opened a TFSA but have been eligible since its inception (2009) you will have this $88k limit and it will continue to increase. If you know your eligible contribution room, you can make a contribution at any time although I generally recommend that unless you are 100% certain of your eligibility you wait until early March to confirm with CRA.
Speaking of CRA, if you do not have a My CRA account (or My Service Canada) I recommend you set it up. It is a useful thing to have and has a lot of pertinent information available to you. You can use various other providers to login to the account so it is easy to use – check more at this link.
I think that is about it for January. All our best for 2023 and we’ll be in touch.
Cheers,
Michelyne, Terran and Ben
